Starting Solids

We started Caleb on solids shortly after his 6 month doctor's visit!  I'm taking on the task of making Caleb's baby food, so far it's been pretty easy.  We started him off on rice cereal, I simply took white rice and threw it in the food processor and made it into a powder.  I added a 1/4 of powder to a cup of water and boiled it up (stirring constantly) for 10 minutes.  I then scooped 1/2 tablespoon portions into ice trays and once frozen, popped them out of the trays and threw them into a Ziploc baggie.  When it's time to eat, I simply take a cube out of the freezer and then zap it in the microwave for 20 seconds. He had rice for a week and then we starting feeding him roasted pureed apples.  The roasted apples were even easier to prepare than the rice.  I cut golden delicious apples (thanks Mike!) in half, cored them, and roasted them face down for 30 minutes.  Caleb is a great eater and has taken to rice and apples really well!

Caleb started breaking out in a rash near/around his diaper area and thighs, I was afraid he was showing signs of a food allergy!  We weren't able to determine what could have caused it as he started solids, got his flu shot, had a cold, and starting teething all in a matter of a week.  Throw that in with Snowmageddon last week and the Saunders household was NO fun.  I took Caleb to the doctor's office and turns out the rash is in fact a heat rash...in the middle of winter.  I guess with the snow and cold last week, and us bundling him up his skin has had enough!  He's on the mend now and we hope he isn't too uncomfortable.

First bite of rice cereal

"Not sure I like this..."

"Hey, not bad!"

"Enough!"

First bite of apples

"Whoa, that's tart!"

"Seriously, what is this?!"

Starting to sit up pretty well

"Look Auntie Lisa, a tooth!"
